On Tuesday, January 6, the round-of-16 matches at the Africa Cup of Nations were played, and the names of the quarter-finalists were confirmed — featuring truly the strongest teams on the continent.
Details: According to Opta, the eight remaining national teams have collectively won all 22 Africa Cup of Nations titles. In addition, together they have played a total of 732 matches in the tournament’s history.
The teams that have reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations are Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria and Nigeria. The upcoming fixtures have also been determined.
Egypt hold the record for the most titles, having lifted the trophy seven times. Cameroon follow with five titles, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire have three each, Algeria have won it twice, while Senegal and Morocco have each claimed one trophy.
