"The stadium will not be named after Lionel Messi. We consider it inappropriate" – Laporta has no plans to rename the stadium
Camp Nou will not be renamed in honor of Lionel Messi.
Details: According to the president of the Catalan club, the idea was discussed at a board of directors meeting but was ultimately deemed inappropriate. The stadium will retain its current name — Spotify Camp Nou.
Laporta also noted that the club has not yet made a decision regarding a possible statue for the Argentine icon. According to him, Barcelona currently has other priorities, and the issue of a memorial will be revisited after the stadium renovation is complete. The president emphasized, however, that Messi deserves a unique tribute.
Laporta announced that the club is planning to give Messi a grand farewell at a packed Camp Nou, with 105,000 fans in attendance.
Recall: Joan Laporta stated that he is not like Putin or Maduro and will not run for a third term as Barcelona president.
