Details: According to Diario AS, Diego Simeone will remain at the helm of the Colchoneros for the 2026/27 season. What’s more, both parties are already discussing the prospect of extending the deal for another year—until the summer of 2028. The club and the coach have held a series of meetings, ultimately reaching a unanimous decision: Simeone’s current cycle in Madrid is far from over.
A crucial aspect of the agreement is that both sides have decided not to activate a special clause in the contract that would have allowed them to part ways a year ahead of schedule. Neither Atlético’s management nor the Argentine coach wanted to use this option, confirming their mutual loyalty.
The club’s sporting department, led by Carlos Bucero and Mateu Alemany, is already working hard to shape the squad for the 2026/27 campaign, relying exclusively on Simeone’s vision. Reports say that “El Cholo” is fully aware of the transfer plans and is actively involved in scouting potential new signings.
