The rise to the throne! Exactly 17 years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo won his first Ballon d'Or
This was the start of Ronaldo’s incredible and triumphant journey.
Details: On December 2, 2008, Paris hosted the 53rd Ballon d'Or ceremony, marking the beginning of one of the most remarkable chapters in football history.
Back then, at just 23 years old, Manchester United midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the coveted award from France Football. The young Ronaldo outshone such stars as Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres, Iker Casillas, and Xavi.
That season, Ronaldo lifted both the Premier League and the Champions League trophies with the Red Devils, and was named both the best player in Europe and the continent’s top scorer, securing the Golden Boot.
This was Ronaldo’s first Ballon d'Or—he would go on to win four more in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017.
Currently, Ronaldo plays for Saudi club Al Nassr, where he continues his goal-scoring spectacle and relentless pursuit of the legendary 1,000 career goals milestone.
Undoubtedly great, unquestionably the best, and truly legendary—Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reminder: Serious level! Cristiano Ronaldo opens his own private club
