The decorated American swimmer Katie Ledecky has become a nine-time Olympic champion.

The American won gold in the 800m freestyle. For the 27-year-old athlete, this is already her fourth medal at the Paris Games, two of which are gold.

Earlier, Katie set an Olympic record by finishing first in the 1500m freestyle in Paris.

The silver medal went to Australia's Ariarne Titmus. The bronze medal was claimed by Paige Madden, also representing the USA.

In total, Ledecky has now amassed 14 Olympic medals of various types, with gold medals being the most prevalent.
