The Real Madrid and Portugal legend has announced the end of his career
The legendary central defender Pepe has made a decision about his future, one that will undoubtedly sadden football fans around the world.
According to the official website of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pepe has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41.
Pepe’s final club in his illustrious career was Porto, where he played from 2004 to 2007, and then again from 2019 to 2024.
This summer, Pepe represented Portugal in Euro 2024, serving as a key player for Roberto Martínez's side. His last match as a professional footballer was the quarterfinal against France, where Portugal was eliminated in a penalty shootout.
Pepe gained widespread recognition during his tenure at Real Madrid from 2007 to 2017. During his time with the Spanish giants, he made a total of 334 appearances, scored 15 goals, and provided 20 assists.
Pepe also played for Beşiktaş and his boyhood club, Marítimo.
As a reminder, Pepe is the oldest player in the history of the Champions League.
