The Premier League won't rush the implementation of semi-automatic offside detection due to one incident
It was expected that this spring the English Premier League would begin implementing the semi-automatic offside detection system. However, the decision has been postponed.
Details: The reason for the hesitation from the English Premier League leadership was an incident in the FA Cup Round of 16 match between Bournemouth and Wolverhampton, reports The Guardian.
In the 8th minute of the game, the semi-automatic offside detection system failed to operate at Bournemouth's stadium due to too many players in the penalty area. As a result, VAR referees had to take an extended period to review the incident and overturn Milos Kerkez's goal.
This system was tested in 7 out of 8 FA Cup Round of 16 matches. Now, they plan to test it in the upcoming FA Cup games before implementing it in the Premier League.
Reminder: It was reported yesterday that Chelsea might release 14 players this summer.
