The Nigerian Football Federation has announced the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the "Super Eagles."

The details of the agreement between the German specialist and the Nigerian federation have not been disclosed.

Labbadia replaces Finidi George, who had been leading the national team for several months following the departure of Portuguese coach José Peseiro.

This will be the 58-year-old Labbadia's first coaching experience abroad. Prior to this, he worked exclusively in his home country.

Labbadia is known for his work with Darmstadt, Greuther Fürth, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Hertha, and Stuttgart. He managed Stuttgart twice, most recently in the 2022-2023 season.

Interestingly, Labbadia becomes the sixth German to coach the "Super Eagles," following Karl-Heinz Marotzke (twice from 1970 to 1974), Gottlieb Göller (1981), Manfred Höner (1988-1989), Berti Vogts (2007-2008), and Gernot Rohr (2016-2021).

Labbadia's debut as Nigeria's coach will be on September 7th in a match against Benin as part of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
