The National Football League has developed prototypes of new helmets for players, surpassing all existing models, as reported by The Washington Post.

The league and the players' union conducted laboratory tests on the new helmet types, with five of them showing the best results in history. Overall, the NFL has allowed players to choose from 12 new helmet designs.

Moreover, eight of them are specifically designed for quarterbacks and linemen, with two models for the former and six for the latter. Quarterbacks' helmets have reinforced protection against ground impacts, which cause the highest number of concussions in players at this position. For linemen, the protection on the front part of the helmet, where they receive the most hits, has been enhanced.

"We are very excited about the pace of innovation in helmets, the level of protection offered to our players overall, and the fact that manufacturers have introduced a level of position-specific protection for the first time," said Jeff Miller, NFL's Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs, and Policy.

Additionally, in the upcoming offseason, the NFL plans to introduce new helmets for receivers and cornerbacks, taking into account the specifics of playing these positions.

It is also worth noting that the NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs, is currently considering the possibility of relocating to a different arena and state.
