The renowned Spanish tennis player David Ferrer has thrown his support behind his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, who has faced defeat in 3 out of 9 matches at the beginning of the new season.

"He is the world's number two, and one cannot expect consistent victories from a 20-year-old player.

Over the last year and a half, Carlos has been performing at the highest level, winning two Grand Slam tournaments and a Masters. The pressure is gradually increasing: initially, it's not as intense because you're just starting out. Now, Carlos is going through a transitional year, and it's quite logical that there will be more pressure because he needs to maintain his level.

It's impossible to win everything, I don't recall Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic winning everything at this age. They also faced challenging situations, and it's part of evolution, maturity. They are different players, and Carlos will also leave his mark on history. I don't know at what level, but in Spain, he will be second in the history of our sport.

He's intelligent, conscious, and progressing, so I consider him a special player, like Rafa, Roger, or Novak," said David.

Alcaraz hasn't won any titles since his victory at Wimbledon 2023. It's worth noting that Ferrer retired in 2019.

Last week, Alcaraz withdrew from the round of 16 match at the tournament in Rio de Janeiro against Thiago Monteiro after the first two games.
