Manchester United’s recent results have left both fans and the club’s management deeply unsatisfied. Many believed the team should have replaced Erik ten Hag in the summer, yet the Dutchman remained in charge. However, a disappointing start to the current season has forced the club to reconsider a managerial change, with a temporary solution potentially coming in the form of club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Details: According to The Mirror, Manchester United continues to search for a permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag but has yet to reach an agreement with any candidates. Should the club decide to part ways with ten Hag, they may turn to Ruud van Nistelrooy as an interim solution.
However, van Nistelrooy himself may hesitate to accept the offer, as stepping in could be seen as a betrayal of his fellow countryman, ten Hag.
Currently, van Nistelrooy is serving as an assistant to Erik ten Hag, though he brings valuable experience as a head coach. In the 2022/23 season, he managed PSV Eindhoven, leading the team to triumphs in both the KNVB Cup and the Dutch Super Cup.
Reminder: Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the legendary figures of Manchester United during the Sir Alex Ferguson era. He played for the Red Devils from 2001 to 2006 and also had stints with PSV, Real Madrid, Hamburg, and other clubs.
He embarked on his coaching career two years after hanging up his boots, starting in 2014. Van Nistelrooy worked as an assistant coach for the Netherlands national team and later coached strikers in PSV’s youth teams before taking charge of the U-19 squad in 2018. Two years later, he became an assistant for the Netherlands national team while continuing his work at PSV. He has been part of ten Hag's staff since this year.
