The legend returns home! Busquets is back at Barcelona
Barcelona is opening its doors to yet another legend from its golden era.
Details: Sergio Busquets has officially returned to Barcelona. The 38-year-old Spaniard has joined the coaching staff of Barça Atlètic, becoming the assistant coach to reserve team head coach Juliano Belletti.
Let’s recall that Busquets ended his playing career following the 2025 season at Inter Miami, where he played alongside Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez. Even during his farewell to football, the Spaniard admitted that after a brief pause he planned to try his hand at coaching—and now he’s making his first step in this new role at his boyhood club.
For the Catalans, Busquets’ return holds special significance: the club continues its tradition of entrusting La Masia graduates with the development of youth talent. Previously, Xavi and other Blaugrana legends took similar paths in Barcelona’s academy.
It’s worth noting that Busquets made 722 appearances for Barcelona, ranking third in the club’s all-time list behind only Xavi and Messi. He boasts 9 La Liga titles and three Champions League triumphs, and with the Spanish national team he won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.
Reminder: Breaking! Barcelona pull off massive transfer for Ballon d'Or winner.
