The legend of the German national team spoke about a possible retirement
Yesterday, the first quarter-final matches of Euro 2024 took place, with Spain securing the first semi-final spot by defeating Germany in overtime.
After the match, German national team veteran Thomas Müller couldn't hold back his tears. Cameras captured the midfielder's despondent expression.
However, the bad news for German fans didn't end with the defeat. According to Sky Sports Germany, Müller is contemplating retiring from international football. He stated:
“It’s very likely that this was my last game with Germany, yes”.
Thomas Müller debuted for Germany in 2010. During this period, he has played 131 matches for the national team, the second-highest in history. He has scored 45 goals, placing him sixth on the all-time scoring list, and has provided 41 assists.
It is worth noting that another legendary player has also left the national team after this match. At the end of the season, Toni Kroos announced that he would retire after Euro 2024. Thus, the German national team might lose two of its veterans at once.
