On Thursday, August 8, the final of the speed climbing event at the 2024 Olympics took place.
In the final, Indonesian climber Veddriq Leonardo faced off against China’s Wu Peng. Veddriq emerged victorious, reaching the top in 4.75 seconds, while Wu Peng completed the climb in 4.77 seconds. Leonardo Veddriq secured Indonesia's first gold medal of these Olympics, with the country previously having only won a bronze medal.
Additionally, in the battle for third place, American Sam Watson set a new world record, climbing to the top in 4.74 seconds.
It is also noteworthy that the Jamaican team failed to advance from the qualification round in the men's 4x100m relay.
