The idea has been put on pause. Barcelona and Atletico will not play a La Liga match in Miami
In the minds of football officials, the idea of holding some top-league matches in the United States or Arab countries has long been brewing. Initially, it was expected that the first such match would be the meeting between Barcelona and Atletico this December. However, plans have changed.
Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, despite the agreement between the clubs, the game will take place in Barcelona, not Miami.
The primary reason cited is the lack of a permanent president in the Royal Spanish Football Federation following the Luis Rubiales scandal.
Additionally, the president of La Liga believes that, in light of Storm DANA, which has recently hit Spain hard, now is not the time to move a match to another country.
However, La Liga has not abandoned this idea and still plans to hold a marquee match in the U.S. in the future.
Reminder: Yesterday, La Liga's top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, shared how badly his garage was flooded during the storm.
