The former Chelsea manager has agreed to take charge of the USA national team
Former Tottenham, PSG, and Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has found a new role, now at the national team level.
According to The Athletic, the Argentine specialist has agreed to take charge of the United States national team. The U.S. Soccer Federation considered several candidates for the role, but ultimately decided on Pochettino.
Notably, U.S. Soccer’s sporting director, Matt Crocker, has previously interacted with Pochettino when he was in charge of Southampton’s academy.
Mauricio Pochettino has never managed a national team before. His most recent position was with Chelsea, where he was unexpectedly dismissed after a successful end to the season.
Following a disappointing performance at the Copa America 2024, U.S. Soccer's leadership dismissed Gregg Berhalter, who had held the position since the summer of 2018. It is worth noting that the U.S., along with Mexico and Canada, will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
