On Friday, December 29, the district court in Kathmandu found the former captain of the Nepal national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, guilty of rape.
According to information from The Kathmandu Post, the player will be sentenced at the next hearing. Currently, Sandeep Lamichhane has been released on bail in the amount of $19,000 (two million Nepalese rupees).
The case was filed on August 21 when a 17-year-old girl accused the 22-year-old cricket player of rape. At that time, Lamichhane was in Trinidad and Tobago, participating in the Caribbean Premier League. He was arrested by the police on October 6 at the Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In addition, following the charges, the young player's bank accounts and assets were confiscated.
