An innocent joke made by Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur in reference to his teammate Heung-min Son could land the Uruguayan a significant suspension.

According to the Evening Standard, Bentancur joked in June that ‘all Koreans look the same’ in reference to Son and his cousins. The England Football Association has ‘appreciated’ the joke and has until 19 September for the Uruguayan to provide an explanation in a case opened by football's governing bodies.

So, if the midfielder is found guilty, he can be disqualified for a period of six to 12 matches. But, it is important to understand that the suspension will not apply to UEFA tournaments, so even in the case of disqualification, he will be able to help Tottenham in Europa League matches.

If the punishment is the most severe, Bentancur will be able to return to domestic games only for the match against Liverpool on 21 December.

Earlier, Son himself, or rather his relatives, faced problems with law and order in South Korea.
