Close relatives of the Tottenham leader face serious charges
The father and brother of Tottenham captain Son Heung-min have found themselves at the center of allegations of child abuse at a training center in South Korea, according to Yonhap.
Son Woong-jung (father) and Son Heung-yun (brother) serve as coaches at the Son Football Academy in Seoul. They, along with another coach, have been accused of physically and verbally abusing young footballers.
In March, the parents of one player reported to the police that their son suffered a hip injury after being struck with a corner flag by Son Heung-yun during a training camp. They also accused Son Woong-jung of using profanity towards players for mistakes made during training in a camp in Okinawa.
Moreover, Yonhap obtained a video showing the Tottenham striker's father kicking one of the players during a match. Son Woong-jung claimed that many of the accusations against him and his team are unfounded and emphasized that his actions have always been driven by concern for the academy’s players.
The regional prosecutor's office in Chuncheon has ordered Son’s father and brother, along with another coach, to pay a fine and complete a training program aimed at preventing child abuse in the future.
