The European champion revealed why he turned down a transfer to Liverpool

It's usually quite easy for famous clubs, including Liverpool, to bring in players from lower-ranked teams. But not all of them do it and favour their current teams.

Thus, the Merseysiders intended to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but the newly-crowned European champion decided to stay in San Sebastian. Here's how he explained his decision:

‘There was no pressure from my inner circle. My friends are sure: whatever I decide, it will be the best. There is no pressure.

For me Real Sociedad is my life, I think I've spent half my life there. A lot of what I am is linked to Real, it's my life,’ Zubimendi told Marca.

Liverpool are now focused on extending their partnership with winger Mohamed Salah and intend to formalise a new deal with the Egyptian.
