The DR Congo will compete in their first World Cup since 1974
The Leopards broke the curse on Tuesday 31 March by securing their place with a victory over Jamaica.
The Democratic Republic of Congo national team made history on Tuesday night at the Estadio Guadalajara in Mexico. The Leopards clinched qualification at the end of a nail-biting match against the Reggae Boyz. A victory that goes beyond mere qualification. Not only does the Congolese side secure Africa’s 10th place at the 2026 World Cup, but it also returns to the competition after more than half a century of waiting.
The Democratic Republic of Congo had not participated in a World Cup since its first qualification in 1974. This is a historic return, marking the DR Congo’s second appearance in the World Cup. The Leopards have been drawn in Group K alongside Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan for the World Cup, which is set to take place next summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
