Football legend Zinedine Zidane will not become the head coach of the French national team in the near future.

According to the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, the current head coach of the national team, Didier Deschamps, will remain in his position at least until the end of the 2026 World Cup, even in the event of an unsuccessful performance at Euro 2024.

"Zidane is one of the icons of French football. We owe him gratitude for everything he has done for the French. But we have the most successful French coach who will work until 2026. Everything has already been discussed and decided", – Diallo quoted by RMC Sport.

It's worth remembering that Zidane has not been involved in coaching since the summer of 2021 when he left Real Madrid.

Deschamps has been coaching the French national team since the summer of 2012. Under his guidance, they won the 2018 World Cup, and in the 2022 World Cup, they lost to Argentina in the final on penalties. Deschamps also led the French team to the final of Euro 2016.

In Euro 2024, France will be in a group with Austria, the Netherlands, and the winner of the Path A playoffs (Wales or Poland).
