The deal has been halted. Bayern Munich's defender will not be moving to Manchester United
The transfer saga surrounding Bayern Munich's central defender Matthijs de Ligt and his move to Manchester United appears to be concluded.
According to Florian Plettenberg, negotiations between the parties have currently been suspended. The player understands that Manchester United will not meet Bayern's asking price of 50 million euros plus add-ons. The Bavarians are firm on this valuation. The current trend suggests that de Ligt will return to Bayern on August 2nd after his vacation. A move to United now seems unlikely.
This is a stark contrast to recent reports suggesting the Red Devils had made significant progress in negotiations with the Munich club, nearly agreeing on a transfer fee of 50 million euros plus bonuses.
Manchester United had already agreed on a contract with de Ligt until the summer of 2029. The Dutchman informed his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, that he was only willing to move to Manchester United and was not considering any other options.
