"The country is dry": No alcohol sales at the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia
The 2034 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia, but there’s bad news for fans—it will be alcohol-free.
Details: Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, ambassador for the 2034 World Cup, confirmed in an interview with The Athletic that alcohol will not be sold during the tournament in the country.
Quote: “No, no. There is no alcohol here at all. Like our weather, the country is dry. Right now, we do not allow alcohol, but you know, you can have fun without it. It’s not something you can’t live without. If you want to drink after leaving—go ahead. But for now, there is no alcohol here. Every culture has its own way, and we are happy to welcome guests within ours, but we don’t want to change it for anyone. And seriously, can’t you live without a drink?” the prince stated.
Under Saudi Arabian law, the possession or consumption of alcohol has been punishable by fines or even deportation for non-residents since 1952.
Reminder: Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo appeared in the promotional video for the 2034 World Cup.
