The British 21-year-old tennis player Emma Raducanu (WTA 301) has returned to the game after a prolonged hiatus.

In the Round of 32 at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, Raducanu defeated Romanian tennis player Elena Gabriela Ruse (WTA 134) in three sets (6:3, 4:6, 7:5).

For Raducanu, this marked her first match since April of last year. During her absence, the Briton underwent three surgeries on her hand and ankle.

In the quarterfinals, Raducanu will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (WTA 25), who defeated the legendary Caroline Wozniacki (WTA 256).

In 2021, Raducanu sensationally became the champion of the US Open.
