The cause of death of former Manchester United player Gordon McQueen has been revealed
In 2023, former legendary Scotland and Manchester United footballer Gordon McQueen passed away. An investigation has now been completed, and details of the tragedy have become known.
Details: According to BBC Sport, the cause of death of the former footballer was likely repeated impacts of the ball to the head, which led to the development of a brain disease. McQueen was diagnosed with vascular dementia.
Quote: “I have established that Mr McQueen sustained repeated blows to the head throughout his career. I am convinced that, on the balance of probabilities, repeated heading of the ball contributed to the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
The combination of CTE and vascular dementia led to pneumonia. I believe that the cause of death was pneumonia, vascular dementia and CTE. It is likely that repeated head impacts sustained while playing football contributed to the development of CTE,” said coroner John Heath.
Gordon McQueen played 30 matches for the Scotland national team and nearly 350 matches for St Mirren, Leeds and United as a central defender.
Recall: The motorsport community is mourning the loss of legendary Formula 1 driver and Le Mans champion Hans Herrmann.
