“CAF is a right joke!!” exclaims Mido

In a scathing and controversial statement, the former Egyptian international has lashed out at the Confederation of African Football, which he accuses of discrediting African football.

The decision by the CAF Appeals Committee continues to be the subject of much debate. Ahmed Hossam Mido is one of the voices speaking out on this decision, which he describes as a historic scandal. Whilst explaining that he harbours no animosity towards Morocco, he considers it unfair to award the trophy to the Atlas Lions, having initially been won by Senegal.

CAF is a right joke! I’ve been saying it for years... The decision to strip Senegal of the Cup and give it to Morocco is the biggest scandal in the history of football. This decision will divide Africa... We’re being made to look like idiots, a corrupt continent. Africa deserves better! There needs to be a revolution in African football; all these people must go today, not tomorrow. I’m not against Morocco; I love that country and its people... but you lost on the pitch. Senegal were the better team and deserve this title. I wanted to congratulate my Moroccan friends, but I can’t congratulate someone on something won in the boardroom rather than on the pitch.
