Speaking to France Football, the Spanish international highlighted his trophy-winning achievements with both club and country but insisted that his greatest strength lies in something entirely different.
Yamal believes that his performances on the pitch and the entertainment he provides to football fans are the strongest arguments in his favour. The young Spaniard also pointed to his recent success with Barcelona and Spain, including his triumph at the 2026 World Cup.
“I've been able to win many titles with Barcelona, and I also won the most important title with my country: the World Cup. But above all, I think the way I play is my strongest argument and what makes me different,” Yamal explained.
The winger added that the Ballon d'Or should reward an exceptional footballer whose performances make supporters want to watch a match just to see him play. He cited Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as examples of players who entertained fans with their distinctive style.
It is worth noting that Yamal finished second in the 2025 Ballon d'Or voting behind Ousmane Dembélé. According to official Ballon d'Or statistics, the Spanish winger made 57 appearances during the 2025/26 season, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists. The winner of the 2026 award will be announced on October 26 in London.
