In October, the Norwegian national team suffered a defeat against Spain, diminishing their chances of progressing to the final stage of the 2024 European Championship from Group A. Spain and Scotland secured early qualification from this group.

Now, Norway's national team has lost all theoretical possibilities of advancing to the group stage of Euro 2024. Earlier, Erling Haaland's team had the chance to qualify through the UEFA Nations League play-offs, but they were eliminated from contention for a spot among the top four teams in League B.

Consequently, the best forward according to France Football and second on the Ballon d'Or list for the second consecutive time will not be participating in a major tournament. Previously, his national team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The last significant international tournament Norway participated in was the 2000 European Championship, their sole appearance in this competition where they couldn't progress beyond the group stage. In the 1998 World Cup, the Scandinavian team reached the Round of 16, matching their achievement from 1938. Norway has participated in the World Cup three times in total.

Erling Haaland has represented the national team across all age categories, participating in the European Championships (U-17 and U-19), as well as the U-20 World Cup.
