Thauvin Slams Tigres Again: “They Treated Me Badly, I Hit Rock Bottom in Mexico”

Florian Thauvin has once again criticized Tigres UANL, claiming the club treated him poorly during his time in Mexico. In an interview with L’Équipe, the French forward reflected on his rocky stint in Liga MX, saying he “hit rock bottom” while playing for the Monterrey-based side.
“The club treated me badly. In Mexico, I hit rock bottom. They questioned my level to the point of dismissing me—it was hard to accept,” said Thauvin, who joined Tigres in 2021 as a World Cup champion and high-profile signing from Olympique de Marseille.
Despite the hype surrounding his arrival, Thauvin struggled to adapt. In 38 appearances, he scored just eight goals and failed to become the attacking leader Tigres had hoped for. He reached two semifinals (Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022), but his final campaign ended in a quarterfinal loss to Pachuca.
Thauvin also revealed that the criticism and lack of support impacted him deeply, admitting that he suffered emotionally. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude toward Tigres fans: “I met fantastic people and a great fanbase there.”
Now playing for Udinese in Italy’s Serie A, Thauvin has found more stability. He’s scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 75 matches, although injuries sidelined him for 13 games last season.
While his chapter in Mexico didn’t go as planned, Thauvin continues to reflect on it—proof that, even years later, the wounds from Tigres remain open.
