Romano stressed that there was never any real doubt inside the club over the midfielder's future once the decisive discussions took place.

The update brings an end to intense speculation surrounding Koné on the final day of the summer transfer window. Earlier reports indicated that Chelsea and Roma had been discussing a major deal for the midfielder, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that the proposed operation could have been worth €52 million.

However, Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini opposed the midfielder's departure at such a late stage of the window. The Giallorossi have now made their position definitive: Koné stays in Rome and will continue the season as part of Gasperini's squad.

It is worth noting that Koné has started both of Roma's Serie A matches this season, playing 144 minutes in total. The 25-year-old midfielder also represented France at the 2026 World Cup and remains under contract with Roma.
