Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has stepped in to produce one of the most dramatic deadline-day twists of the summer transfer window.

Details: According to renowned insider Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea and Roma were on the verge of finalizing a mega-deal for French midfielder Manu Koné worth €52 million. The operation was considered virtually complete until Gasperini intervened directly to pull the plug and veto the player's departure.

The Italian tactician made it clear to the Giallorossi board that Koné is an indispensable pillar of his tactical setup and too crucial to lose so late in the window without adequate time to secure a replacement.

As a result of the manager's firm stance, negotiations were abruptly called off, and the 25-year-old French international will remain at the Stadio Olimpico for the current campaign.

It is worth noting that according to Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old French midfielder's current market value stands at €40 million.
