The Willy Sagnol era with the Georgia national team is officially over.

Details: The Georgian Football Federation has confirmed that Willy Sagnol has been dismissed as head coach of the senior national team. The federation has already named his successor: Georgia U21 manager Ramaz Svanadze will step up to take charge of the senior side.

According to the federation's announcement, Svanadze has been appointed until the end of 2028. He moves into the senior role after working with Georgia's U21 team and will now be responsible for leading the national side through the next stage of its development.

Sagnol had been in charge of Georgia since February 2021. In November 2024, his contract was extended through 2028, but the French coach will leave the post well before that agreement was due to expire.

The coaching change comes at the start of Georgia's 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign. The team lost 1-0 at home to Northern Ireland in its opening League B fixture and is preparing for its next matches under new leadership.

It is worth noting that Sagnol achieved a historic milestone with Georgia in 2024. Under the Frenchman, the national team qualified for its first-ever major international tournament, EURO 2024, where Georgia sensationally reached the round of 16 after beating Portugal 2-0 in the group stage.
