Terrifying scenes at the tournament: athlete collapses unconscious after attempting to lift barbell
Weightlifting is an extremely dangerous sport.
Details: According to talkSport, the weightlifting competition was overshadowed by a distressing incident. One of the Commonwealth Games' most renowned competitors, Chris Murray, lost consciousness right on the platform, forcing organizers to urgently cut the live television broadcast.
During his lift attempt, the athlete failed to complete the barbell snatch and let go of the weight, which crashed loudly onto the platform. Moments later, he visibly lost his coordination: first dropping to his knees as he tried to stay upright, and then collapsing completely, falling onto his back, unconscious.
The medical team rushed to the platform instantly, while the audience watched in complete silence. Preliminary reports indicate that the cause was a sudden drop in blood pressure, which led to a brief interruption of blood flow to the brain.
Later, former weightlifter and four-time Commonwealth Games medalist Breeze reassured fans, stating that the athlete's condition was not a cause for serious concern.
"He’s fine," he said after the incident.
Fortunately, the incident did not have serious consequences, but footage of the collapse quickly spread across social media, sparking a wave of reactions from fans.
