Horrific crash at the Tour de France: cyclist smashes his face through a car window and receives 20 stitches
One of the most terrifying incidents of this year’s Tour de France occurred during the multi-stage race. Colombian rider Einer Rubio of the Movistar team suffered severe injuries after colliding with a support vehicle and was forced to withdraw from the race prematurely.
The crash happened on stage 19 during the ascent to Alpe d'Huez. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG car braked sharply to avoid hitting a fan who suddenly ran onto the road and fell right in front of the vehicle. Rubio, riding just behind, had no time to react and slammed face-first into the car’s rear window at full speed, shattering the glass.

After the impact, the Colombian was left on the asphalt with serious facial injuries. Medical staff quickly provided emergency assistance at the scene, after which the athlete was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble. The Movistar team later reported that Rubio received around 20 stitches to his face. After examination, he was discharged from the hospital, but his Tour de France is over.
