Terrifying. Gunshots heard during interview with Philippe Coutinho at Vasco da Gama training ground
Vasco da Gama star Philippe Coutinho found himself at the center of a chilling incident while giving an interview to journalists at the club's training base. According to Brazilian outlet globo.com, gunshots were heard nearby during the filming of the program, just outside the training center.
The report notes that the incident took place close to the city of Cidade de Deus, an area notorious for frequent acts of violence. Club staff say that such sounds have sadly become part of everyday life at Vasco da Gama's base.
The Moacyr Barbosa training center, which opened in 2020, is located in a district that has been grappling with violence for many years. For example, on Monday, a police officer was killed during a raid on an illegal ice factory. The operation aimed to stop the sale of contaminated ice in popular districts of Rio de Janeiro. The crackdown sparked multiple shootouts, disrupting road traffic and public transportation across the area.
Despite these daunting circumstances, Vasco da Gama continues to invest in the development of its training center, with plans to build new facilities for the coaching staff and a wellness area for players among other improvements.
