Such conduct does no footballer any credit.
Details: In the 9th round match of the Brazilian Serie A between Santos and Remo, a highly unpleasant and unsportsmanlike incident unfolded.
In the 88th minute, Santos midfielder Neymar was distributing the ball and faked a move against Remo’s Diego Hernández, which clearly didn’t sit well with the latter. As soon as the ball was played, Hernández rushed at Neymar and shoved him hard, sending him sprawling on the turf. But within seconds, Neymar was up and charging right back, retaliating with a forceful shove of his own. This sparked a massive skirmish as players from both teams rushed in to back up their teammates.
The referee managed to quickly restore order, issuing yellow cards to both Neymar and Hernández for their roles in the altercation.
Because of the booking, Neymar will now have to miss the upcoming match against Flamengo—a blow for him, especially with the national team’s World Cup squad selection looming.
Still, the match ended well for Neymar—Santos secured a 2-0 victory, and Neymar notched an assist to his name.
Reminder: Ancelotti has almost finalized Brazil's World Cup 2026 squad. Is Neymar on the list?
