Lionel Messi continues to rewrite his own records at the 2026 World Cup.
In the quarterfinal match against Switzerland, the Argentina captain delivered an assist as early as the 10th minute. After Messi's corner, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister rose above the defense and headed the ball home to open the scoring.
This assist was Messi’s tenth in World Cup history—a new all-time tournament record.
Additionally, the clash with Switzerland marked the fourth World Cup quarterfinal in the 39-year-old Argentine’s career. With this achievement, he now stands alongside German football legends Lothar Matthäus, Miroslav Klose, and Uwe Seeler.
