Manchester United's head coach, Erik ten Hag, commented on the quietness of the "Red Devils" during the winter transfer window.

As quoted by Sky Sports, this was partly due to the financial fair play rules:

"It's no secret that I wanted a forward because, due to Anthony Martial's injury, we don't have a replacement. But it was impossible because we have to adhere to the financial fair play rules.

To have room to maneuver with FFP, you have to sell players, good players. I don't think that's the way to build a team."

It was previously reported that Manchester United wanted to sign Karim Benzema, but due to potential non-compliance with financial fair play rules, the transfer had to be abandoned.

After 22 played matches, the "Red Devils" currently occupy the seventh position in the English Premier League standings.
