Táchira Coach Compares Flamengo to a European Team Ahead of Libertadores Clash
Deportivo Táchira head coach Edgar Pérez had high praise for Flamengo ahead of their Copa Libertadores opener, calling the Brazilian giants "a European team playing in South America." Speaking to ge, Pérez acknowledged the disparity between the two clubs but expressed confidence in his squad's ability to compete.
“Flamengo is a well-structured team built to win the Copa Libertadores. They're a European team in South America. We know the quality of their players and their coach, and we're preparing ourselves to compete,” said Pérez, who guided Táchira to back-to-back Venezuelan league titles — a first in the club's history.
Pérez also emphasized the importance of home advantage in San Cristóbal. “These are two different realities, but we must be strong with our fans behind us. We've studied their recent matches and understand that Brazil's league is one of the toughest in the world. We hope to rise to the occasion,” he added.
