Szczęsny has revealed who convinced him to join Barcelona
Today, Barcelona officially announced the signing of veteran Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny on a contract running until the end of the season. Szczęsny came out of retirement to cover for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen.
Details: Szczęsny revealed that it was his long-time friend and Polish national team teammate, Robert Lewandowski, who initiated the deal.
Quote: "Lewandowski was the first one to call me about this possibility, because I had retired. At first, I wasn’t ready for new challenges, but then I spoke with my family and friends, and they all told me it would be a mistake not to accept the offer. So, Robert played a huge role in convincing me.
I’ve always been a fan of Barça. I see the passion of the supporters, and it was amazing to watch a game at the stadium. The team looks exciting. This challenge excites me, and I’m approaching it with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I’m ready to work hard and face the challenges ahead this season," Szczęsny told Barça’s press service.
Reminder: Just recently, Barcelona announced the contract extension of their 17-year-old central midfielder until the summer of 2029.
