Super Eagles Held to 2-2 Draw by Jordan as Iwobi Sees Red
Nigeria was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Jordan in an international friendly played in Antalya on Tuesday, in a match that ended on a dramatic note with a late red card for Alex Iwobi.
Jordan struck first through Musa Al-Taamari in the 17th minute, putting the Super Eagles on the back foot early in the game. However, Nigeria responded well, and Moses Simon brought them level nine minutes later. The winger reacted quickly inside the box to slot home with his left foot after an initial effort from Ademola Lookman was blocked.
Nigeria completed the turnaround just before the break, as Emmanuel Fernandez found the back of the net four minutes before half-time to give his side the lead.
The second half saw Jordan push for a response, and their persistence paid off when Mohammad Al-Daoud equalised with 13 minutes left on the clock, ensuring the contest finished all square.
Late drama followed in the closing stages, as Iwobi, who had been introduced as a substitute, was shown a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct, capping off a frustrating end to the encounter for Nigeria.
