Nigeria is getting ready to play Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25, as they continue their pursuit of a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles are keen to win another game to increase their chances of qualifying after defeating Rwanda 2-0.

Current Standings – Group C

  1. Gabon – 15 points
  2. Ivory Coast – 13 points (1 game in hand)
  3. Burundi – 7 points
  4. Nigeria – 6 points
  5. Zimbabwe – 3 points

Expected Tactical Setup

Head coach Eric Chelle is likely to maintain his 4-4-2 diamond formation but could make slight tweaks to strengthen the squad.

Projected Starting XI:

  • Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali
  • Defenders: William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bruno Onyemaechi
  • Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Ademola Lookman
  • Forwards: Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen

Onyemaechi might start at left-back since Bright Osayi-Samuel might be sidelined by injury, allowing Aina to revert to his usual right-back position. Chukwueze could also make way for Onyedika to reinforce the midfield.

Nigeria vs. Zimbabwe – Head-to-Head Record

  • Total Matches: 6
  • Nigeria Wins: 4
  • Zimbabwe Wins: 0
  • Draws: 2

The Super Eagles are well aware of the stakes, since kickoff is set at 4 PM GMT. In addition to improving their standings, a win would rekindle their pursuit of World Cup qualifying.
