Members of the Sri Lankan national cricket team are required to undergo mandatory fitness tests to gain clearance for participation in the 2026 Indian Premier League. This decision, announced by the national cricket association (SLC), reflects an increased emphasis on monitoring the players’ physical condition, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Dushmantha Chameera and Pathum Nissanka (both with Delhi Capitals), as well as Kamindu Mendis (Sunrisers Hyderabad), have already passed the assessments and received approval. Meanwhile, several key players are yet to complete the testing process. Notably, Wanindu Hasaranga (Lucknow Super Giants), Matheesha Pathirana (Kolkata Knight Riders), and Eshan Malinga (Sunrisers Hyderabad) are still in recovery following injuries and have not met the required standards. The participation of Nuwan Thushara (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) will also depend on his test results.

The testing regimen includes multiple stages, such as a 2-kilometer sprint. Only athletes who successfully meet the prescribed benchmarks will be granted permission to compete in both the domestic championship and the IPL.

It was previously reported that Pathirana is certain to miss the IPL season opener and will not be able to join the squad before mid-April. The 2026 Indian Premier League is set to kick off on March 28.
