Problems for Kolkata Knight Riders. Pathirana to miss IPL 2026 opener
Kolkata Knight Riders are facing squad challenges at the outset of the 2026 Indian Premier League season. One of the team's key players, Matheesha Pathirana, will miss the initial stages of the tournament, while Harshit Rana's participation remains uncertain.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Pathirana's absence is due to his current condition and schedule, delivering a significant blow to KKR's bowling attack. His unorthodox bowling style and ability to perform in the death overs have been crucial to the team's structure.
The situation with Harshit Rana is also causing concern. A final decision regarding his involvement in the opening matches of IPL 2026 has yet to be made, with the coaching staff closely monitoring his readiness. As a result, KKR risk starting the new season with a weakened lineup, which could impact the team's performance in the early stages of the tournament.
