Argentina legend Ángel Di María has revealed in an interview with Infobae that he still takes medication to cope with the emotional toll of losing multiple major finals with the national team.

"Because of that I'm still taking the meds. I was able to reduce it [dosage]. I'm much better, but that's something a little addictive, too. These are things that stay with you, that mark you," Di María admitted.

The winger endured three consecutive heartbreaking final losses with Argentina—the 2014 World Cup and two Copa América finals. These defeats left a lasting impact on him, even though he later played a key role in winning the 2022 World Cup and back-to-back Copa América titles.

Di María also expressed sympathy for his former Argentina teammates who never got to experience the team's later triumphs. He lamented that the players who fought in those finals and fell short are often forgotten because they didn’t win.

The 37-year-old retired from international football last year but continues to play at club level for Benfica.
