Steve Barker: We want to end the year on a good note and the game against Polokwane City tonight is massively important for us

Steve Barker describes Stellenbosch FC’s match against Polokwane City this evening as ‘massively important’.

Barker’s Stellies are third from bottom of the Betway Premiership standings with 12 points and the Cape Winelands side are desperately looking to move away from the drop zone.

“Looking at the log table, it’s an area we want to get away from, and I’ve always said that getting back-to-back wins in the league is really important. After beating Orbit College, it’s important for us at home to follow that up with another three points against Polokwane City,” Barker told his club website.

“Ending the year with a positive result is massively important to us.”

Barker has some respect for the Polokwane City who are on the seventh spot on the standings.

“It’s a massive game and opportunity for us against a good, solid team who have shown over the last couple of seasons that you have to play well to beat them, and they have some really good strengths that they play to,” he said.

“But the match against Polokwane City is a massively important fixture for us to get through first.”

The match starts at 7.30pm at Athlone Stadium.
