Stellenbosch FC made history by securing a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals with a commanding 2-0 victory over Stade Malien at Loftus Versfield Stadium. Fawaaz Basadien opened the scoring with a penalty in the 30th minute, and just before halftime, Jayden Adams doubled the lead with a powerful header from a corner.
The victory puts Stellies in second place behind RS Berkane in Group B with nine points. The South African team advances to the knockout stages and will join Berkane as a result of this outstanding accomplishment.
Despite a few scares, including a late chance from Lassine Kouma, Stellenbosch remained composed and secured the crucial victory. They will play Berkane away on January 19, 2025, with one game left, hoping to end the group phase on a positive note.
Group D Standings:
- RS Berkane: 13 points
- Stellenbosch FC: 9 points
- Stade Malien: 4 points
- CD Lunda Sul: 2 point
