Spain's main goalkeeper has undergone surgery and is out for 4-5 months
Devastating news has emerged for fans of Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team.
The first-choice goalkeeper of the European champions Unai Simon underwent surgery on his wrist ligaments yesterday. The operation was successful, but according to medical forecasts, Simón’s hand must remain immobile for two months, and his return to the field is expected in 4-5 months.
Moreover, this issue is not new for Simón. He played the last matches of Euro 2024 with pain-relieving injections.
At the European Championship, which ended in Spain’s triumph, Simón was the main goalkeeper. He missed only the final group stage match against Albania.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao, for which he has already played 195 matches.
In the new season, Athletic will compete in the Europa League.
