The South African national team has moved closer to advancing to the next round.
Details: Today, in the Namibian capital of Windhoek, the South African and Botswana youth teams faced off in the COSAFA Under-20 Championship.
After a goal-filled draw with Zambia in the opening round, the young Bafana Bafana squad needed nothing less than a win to keep their hopes alive in the group stage—and they delivered.
In the 15th minute, Selwyn Stevens put the South Africans ahead, and just ten minutes later, Bokamoso Mokokosi doubled the lead to 2-0, effectively taking the suspense out of the match.
After the break, South Africa kept up the pressure and maintained control, and in the 59th minute, Omphemetse Sekgoto made it 3-0, turning the scoreline into a rout.
Neither side managed to find the net again, and the match ended 3-0, sending South Africa to the top of the group despite being level with Zambia on points and goal difference.
The final round will be decisive at this stage: South Africa will take on group outsiders Eswatini, while Zambia faces Botswana. To secure a place in the next round, Bafana Bafana needs at least a draw.
